The Transport Accident Commission, In Victoria, commissioned the Grumps team to create an experience to live outside the Road to Zero experience, outside the Melbourne Museum...

The resulting project, living outside the Road to Zero educational complex, encourages better road safety students through two separate data visualisations. One of these visualisations speaks to the number of deaths on Victorian roads since the year 2000, and the other demonstrates the complexity of the roads and transport system in the state.

Our delivery was in the form of two separate video array walls, each a subtle but powerful interactive experience that invites users to explore this complex messaging in the flesh, shifting as the user steps closer or in different directions. In one activation, the road system elevates and explodes out of the map, demonstrating the complexity of the roads system and the number of daily travellers. In the other, a sea of thousands of tragic road safety stories is highlighted and explored.

Grumpy Sailor operates on lands belonging to the Gadigal people of the Eora nation, and the Boon Wurrung and Woiwurrung (Wurundjeri) peoples of the Kulin nation.

We acknowledge these traditional owners and we pay our respects to leaders past, present and emerging.
