Viewing rapid changes in technology and audience expectations as an opportunity rather than a challenge, The Australian Sports Museum approached Grumpy Sailor to transform its Game On! play space. Exploring the key physical interactions which underpin our beloved Aussie sports, we crafted a surprising and delightful environment where visitors of varying ages and abilities could engage with sport in unique and meaningful ways.

The Game On! Gallery is a catalyst for play for people of all ages, cultures and abilities – making the sports we love a little more accessible. After building a unique digital avatar, visitors move through a reactive and dynamic environment, where anything can (and will) happen. From a 100,000 seater AFL stadium to cricket bins in the backyard, each interactive is unique and unexpected, cultivating a greater understanding of Australia’s sporting history through the games we play.

Visitors can boulder an Australian obstacle, surf a perfect barrel, record their very own classic catch, or transform the space to make their own rules. Each sporting experience invites a different type of input, blurring the lines between physical and digital in a delightful exploration of play and movement.

Grumpy Sailor operates on lands belonging to the Gadigal people of the Eora nation, and the Boon Wurrung and Woiwurrung (Wurundjeri) peoples of the Kulin nation.

We acknowledge these traditional owners and we pay our respects to leaders past, present and emerging.
