Can 12 young offenders conquer Shakespeare?

'Kings of Baxter' is a 66-minute documentary that shadows the footsteps of educators James and Huw as they teach The Scottish Play* to a group of boys in Frank Baxter Juvenile Detention Centre.

Engaging, touching, full of Shakespearean phrases and metaphors we're still trying to wrap our heads around... This is the story of the landmark Bell Shakespeare education program and a bunch of boys trying to achieve something pretty epic: a performance of one of the most complex and iconic plays in human history, in front of friends, family and fellow inmates.

If, as Macbeth himself muses, 'life is a tale', this doco is about the best, the most challenging and the most hopeful parts of that tale.

Grumps developed this documentary alongside Director by Jack Yabsley and Joshua Heath. It was produced by our very own Claire Evans and the wonderful Susan MacKinnon.

Grumpy Sailor presents Kings of Baxter, a feature documentary following juvenile justice detainees.
